In the 23rd tournament of the 3rd season’s league, 26 players from 11 countries participated. We welcome andresmunar 🇨🇴 taking part in this league for the first time. The total number of players now stand at 78. All the players except e17 🇰🇿, placed in the top 10 for this tournament are from Afrika: Ghana 🇬🇭 - 4, Benin 🇧🇯 - 3, Nigeria 🇳🇬 - 2 & Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 1.
issahfuseinji 🇬🇭 won the tournament, his second this season with a score of 6.0 points, losing a game to ademolaijaya 🇳🇬. Well done to him 👏👏👏. geotrouvetout 🇧🇯 placed 2nd with 5.5 points, losing a game to abilohre 🇬🇭 & drawing with baobabadji 🇧🇯. ademolaijaya 🇳🇬 also with 5.5 points placed 3rd, losing a game to geotrouvetout 🇧🇯 & drawing with senateur 🇧🇯.
abilohre 🇬🇭 & baobabadji 🇧🇯 placed 4th and 5th respectively. In this edition the top 3 positions were occupied by players from three countries: Ghana 🇬🇭, Benin 🇧🇯 & Nigeria 🇳🇬. Well done to them & everyone else who participated 👏👏👏.
We applaud the two female Ugandan players bme 🇺🇬 & vivian256 🇺🇬 for participating in this tournament. They really give the rest of the other countries some food for thought. Let’s make greater efforts to encourage and facilitate new players, especially female and the youth to participate in these tournaments.
Overall leader the Oga Ota of Nigeria 🇳🇬 mrjohnson’s lead continues to reduce drastically. As a result of being plagued by uncharacteristic absences & network issues. With 14 wins out of 23, his score remains at 124.5 points. He is now just 4.5 points ahead of issahfuseinji 🇬🇭. The difference between him and the three players has as a consequence reduced to 4.5, 28.0 & 33.0 points respectively.
e17 🇰🇿 still in 5th position with 89.0 💯 participation record remains on course to become the Asian champion. He is 35.5 points away from the leading player mrjohnson 🇳🇬, and 55.5 points ahead of goldm 🇰🇬 the nearest Asian contender, who has accumulated 33.5 points. paulie42 🇨🇿 with 72.5 and in 9th position, maintains his leading margin from incumbent European champion monkftw 🇬🇧 with 62.0 points. Having gained only one point, the difference is now 10.5 points between them, and is on course to claim the European title. American Continental champion daallo 🇲🇽 with 49.5 points, is now in 14th position. He has been overtaken by the highest ranking female player bme, with 50.0 points. He is some 75.0 points off the leading points score. He too is on course to maintain his title, still being 15.0 points ahead of germancali 🇨🇴 the nearest American Continental contender, with 34.5 points & in 22nd position. We continue to observe if other players from the different continents can make up the differences and thwart these predictions becoming a reality.
New players have been joining the league. These however are not in the main coming from countries that have not participated in the league before. Will there be new players including master & grandmasters joining the league to add more dynamism to it. Time will tell, as the players from Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬, Barbados 🇧🇧, Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, Cape Verde 🇨🇻, The Gambia 🇬🇲 , Guinea 🇬🇳, Guinea Bissau 🇬🇼, Mali 🇲🇱, Niger 🇳🇪, Sierra Leone 🇸🇱, Saint Lucia 🇱🇨, Togo 🇹🇬 are yet to enter the fray.
Players from 16 countries: Afghanistan 🇦🇫, Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬, Azerbaijan 🇦🇿, Barbados 🇧🇧, Cape Verde 🇨🇻, Costa Rica 🇨🇷, France 🇫🇷, Italy 🇮🇹, Portugal 🇵🇹, Russia 🇷🇺, Serbia 🇷🇸, Spain 🇪🇸, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰, Togo 🇹🇬, Turkey 🇹🇷 & Turkmenistan 🇹🇲 that participated in last year’s league are yet to participate in this edition of the league. Do well to recruit players from these teams to participate in the upcoming practice tournaments in preparation for the championships to come.
Please take note, the top positioned players who are International or Full members of The Oware Society before the league ends, will be awarded cash prizes. Therefore If you place in the top 3, and wish to be considered for a cash award, join The Oware Society before the league ends. The top placed, International or Full members in the female, junior & continental categories will be awarded cash prizes so long as they are Full or International members and enough funds are raised. If enough funds are raised we will consider awarding prizes for country winners, so long as the country is represented by 5 or more players, is not in the top three or a continental champion.
