Last’s weeks campaign of games and matches did not disappoint as the ranking table will testify. There was a slight change in the top five positions, with the fifth position changing. New players came to our attention, with at least one of these initially showing signs of rampaging through the ranks but was soon halted by the yellow wall of resistance. The ranking region most hotly contested where players without resilience do not stay long. An intriguing outcome of the weeks campaign of games is that most players rankings stayed more or less where they were the previous week, only moving one or two points in the main. This week also saw the brief return of the 2nd positioned players serikaktayev to the ashanti room, whilst dsk still reigned supreme.
Highlight of the week: One of the highlights of the week was the three-game match between masterfisz and serikaktayev in which masterfisz won by 2 games to one. sanaker’s progress up the ranks, taking on top ranked players and winning games off them before being halted the more skilful players. The match between leprophete and mandarin in the fourth round of the practice tournament for us at least was the highlight on the week. Mini Marathon matches of the week: On Monday masterfisz & panfile played a 12-game match resulting in a 10 – 2 draws – 5 win for masterfisz. On Tuesday furtif1 & lordsoso engaged in a 13-game match in two tranches resulting in a 1 – 5 ,1 – 6 (2 -11) defeat for furtif1. On Wednesday kamilrybnik engaged harrison01 in a 10 game match resulting in a 6 – 4 defeat for harrison01. kamilrybnik & lordsoso played a ten-game match resulting in a 10 – 1 loss for lordsoso. zingman & wkc1342 played a 14-game match resulting in a 5 – draw – 8 win for wkc1342. On Thursday it was the turn of bapoware & winin in an 11-game match ending in a 10 – 1 defeat for bapoware. On Friday masterfisz & panfile played a twelve-game match resulting in an 8 – 4 win for masterfisz. Sunday saw multiple mini marathon matches. First kamilrybnik & lordsoso played a ten-game match resulting in a 10 – 1 loss for lordsoso. Then in probably the longest match of the week newcomer sanaker & furtif1 played a 17-game match resulting in a 14 – 3 win for sanaker. Finally, zingman & wkc1342 played a 14-game match resulting in a 5 – draw – 8 win for wkc1342
Risers: The most notable riser of the week was panfile, who rose 10 places to make it into the top five for the first time. On the path towards achieving this he took on masterfisz early in the week in a 17-game match. Although panfile lost the match the 5 games won, and two draws gained panfile a substantive number of points from such a high ranking. This pattern was continued throughout the week where panfile continued to win games against from masterfisz kamilrybnik and wkc1342. Other notable risers where zingman, wkc1342, monkftw and lapwing each rising 9 or more + points each. Lower down in the ranks lewykapy, gugus39, fsk9814 jussssstka, big30, bme, fredem and 5460africa, perhaps the largest riser, all rose by substantive amounts
Fallers: Notable fallers masterfisz fell 7 places to 13th position. kamilrybnik, smp4264g and leganant fell two places each. tps491g fell five places to 24th position. lordsoso crashed out of the top 50 falling 11 places to 54th place
Practice Tournament: The 21st practice tournament did not disappoint. The number of participants increased from last week’s attendance to 16. It was a tough competition featuring player from across the ranks. After an absence of six weeks mandarin made an appearance and made his presence felt in a tough match with leprophete the favourite. leprophete took a substantial lead but got into a position that looked like a fait accompli in mandarin’s favour. Mandarin began to reel him in reducing the margin only for to make a critical error in move 40, allowing leprophete to win the game and the tournament with seven straight wins. mandarin came in second place with 9at22 placing 3rd former champion legagnat placed 4th.
