In the 21st tournament of the 3rd season’s league, 30 players from 11 countries participated. We welcome ayirungo 🇬🇭taking part in this season’s league for the first time. The total number of players now stand at 76. All the players who placed in the top 10 for this tournament are from Afrika: Ghana 🇬🇭- 5, Benin 🇧🇯 - 3 & Nigeria 🇳🇬 - 2.
issahfuseinji 🇬🇭 won the tournament for the first time this season with a score of 6.0 points, in the toughest & most dramatic tournament so far. He drew 2 matches with ayirungo & mrjohnson. Well done to him 👏👏👏. abilohre 🇬🇭 placed 2nd also with 6.0 points, losing a game to ayirungo 🇬🇭. mrjohnson 🇳🇬 placed 3rd with 5.5 points, losing a game to abilohre 🇬🇭 & drawing issahfuseinji 🇬🇭.
baobabadji 🇧🇯 & ademolaijaya 🇳🇬 placed 4th and 5th respectively. In this edition the top 3 positions were occupied by players from two countries: Ghana 🇬🇭& Nigeria 🇳🇬. The Ghanaian players definitely brought their A game to the tournament. Up to round 5 it looked like they would take the top 3 positions, until ayirungo 🇬🇭lost to mrjohnson 🇳🇬. Well done to them & everyone else who participated 👏👏👏.
We applaud the three female Ugandan players bme 🇺🇬, vivian256 🇺🇬, anyvil 🇺🇬 & junior player dalton1 🇺🇬 also from Uganda. for participating in this tournament. They really give the rest of the other countries some food for thought. Let’s make greater efforts to encourage and facilitate new players, especially female and the youth to participate in these tournaments.
Overall leader the Oga Ota of Nigeria 🇳🇬 mrjohnson’s lead, reduced slightly due to his 3rd position. With 14 wins out of 21 and 124.5 points. He is still on course to retain the Afrikan & overall title. The overall difference between top four players has as a consequence slightly reduced to 16.5, 33.0 & 42.0 points respectively.
e17 🇰🇿 now in 5th position with 81.0 💯 participation record remains on course to become the Asian champion. He is 43.5 points away from the leading player mrjohnson 🇳🇬, and 51.0 points ahead of goldm 🇰🇬 the nearest Asian contender, who has accumulated 30.0 points. paulie42 🇨🇿 with 67.5 and in 9th position, maintains his leading margin from incumbent European champion monkftw 🇬🇧 with 56.0 points. Having both gained 3.0 with 11.5 points between them, and is on course to claim the European title. American Continental champion daallo 🇲🇽 with 45.5 points, drops to the 15th position. He is some 79.0 points off the leading points score. He too is on course to maintain his title, being 21.0 points ahead of eldani45 🇨🇴 the nearest American Continental contender, with 24.5 points & in 27th position. We continue to observe if other players from the different continents can make up the differences and thwart these predictions becoming a reality.
New players have been joining the league. These however are not coming from countries that have not participated in the league before. Will there be new players including master & grandmasters joining the league to add more dynamism to it. Time will tell, as the players from Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬, Barbados 🇧🇧, Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, Cape Verde 🇨🇻, The Gambia 🇬🇲 , Guinea 🇬🇳, Guinea Bissau 🇬🇼 Ivory Coast 🇨🇮, Mali 🇲🇱, Niger 🇳🇪, Sierra Leone 🇸🇱, Saint Lucia 🇱🇨, Togo 🇹🇬 are yet to enter the fray.
Players from 17 countries: Afghanistan 🇦🇫, Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬, Azerbaijan 🇦🇿, Barbados 🇧🇧, Cape Verde 🇨🇻, Costa Rica 🇨🇷, France 🇫🇷, Italy 🇮🇹, Ivory Coast 🇨🇮, Portugal 🇵🇹, Russia 🇷🇺, Serbia 🇷🇸, Spain 🇪🇸, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰, Togo 🇹🇬, Turkey 🇹🇷 & Turkmenistan 🇹🇲 that participated in last year’s league are yet to participate in this edition of the league. Do well to recruit players from these teams to participate in the upcoming practice tournaments in preparation for the championships to come.
Please take note, the top positioned players who are International or Full members of The Oware Society before the league ends, will be awarded cash prizes. Therefore If you place in the top 3, and wish to be considered for a cash award, join The Oware Society before the league ends. The top placed, International or Full members in the female, junior & continental categories will be awarded cash prizes so long as they are Full or International members and enough funds are raised. If enough funds are raised we will consider awarding prizes for country winners, so long as the country is represented by 5 or more players, is not in the top three or a continental champion.
