3rd Season Online Oware Leagues

The final tournament of the 3rd season of the Online Oware Tournament which started on 02/09/2023 culminated on 24/08/2024 on the PlayStrategy platform. After a 52 week run the final tally of points have now been computed. A total of 99 players from 20 countries participated. This was down on last year’s total of 123 players from 33 countries. The number of participants ranged from 18 the lowest turnout to 32 its highest. An average of about 25 players per tournament.

Individual League

With each season that passes the Online Oware Tournaments gets tougher as more master players come on board. The 3rd season proved no different, with many more upsets and some players definitely upping their game. What this shows is that the league is a useful tool for developing one’s game. Being the one of very few opportunities for novices to play grandmaster players.

After a 52 week campaign mrjohnson with 308.5 points prevailed as the champion of the League for the 2nd time. He participated in 49 out of the 52 tournaments and won 34 of them. 23 of these were won with a perfect score of 7.0. Proving once again that he is the undisputed champion both online & face to face with his recent win at the V World Nomad Games - Astana 24 Oware Championship. His worst performance in which he actually played the match was the 10/02/24 tournament where he uncharacteristically placed 9th, in part due to absence. On the 03/02/24 tournament he placed 26th. Both were probably due to network issues. Probably the toughest tournament for him to win was the 20/04/24 where he won with 5.5 points. Losing a match to elvisaboaya & drawing with abilohre .

Runner up issahfuseinij , the Tamale Champion, with 239.0 points, played in 38 tournaments winning 6 of them. He placed 2nd 9 times. His worst performance was 22nd position on the 10/02/24 tournament. In the later quarter of the season his performance dwindled achieving less top 5 positions than earlier in the season. This maybe once his 2nd place was secured there was less motivation to perform to his best abilities.

Second runner up is ademolaijaya , accumulating 221.0 points and closely behind Issahfuseinij , played in 48 tournaments. He placed 2nd 4 times, 3rd 8 times & 4th 6 times. His lowest position was 18th and was the only top 6 ranking player not to win a tournament.

In 4th & 5th positions are e17 & roberisco with 208.0 & 200.5 points respectively. roberisco won a tournament early on in the 5th week of the season. He participated in 48 tournaments, resulting in an average score of 4.2. His best performance was 1st and his worst 22nd.

Asian & Prolific

Once again e17 with 208.0 has been the most prolific player, having played in all 52 tournaments. With this performance e17 is also the Online Asian Oware Champion. He also managed to win a tournament. No easy feat, with a field of grandmasters players: geotrouvetout , mrjohnson , ogbomaga48 , abilohre on his tail. His best performance was 1st whilst his worst was 18th. He achieved an average score of 4.0.

European Champion

paulie42 participated in 37 tournaments accumulating 143.5 points, and an average of 3.9. Being the highest ranked European player he becomes the Online European Oware Champion. His highest & lowest positions were 7th & 31st respectively.

American Champion

germancali participated in 40 tournaments, accumulating 115.0 points, and an average of 2.9, placed 12th overall. Being the highest ranked American player he becomes the Online America Oware Champion. He participated in 40 tournaments, achieving his highest position of 6th.

Female Champion

bme participated in 35 tournaments accumulating 106.5, and an average of 3.0, placed 14th. Being the highest ranked female player, she claimed the Online Female Oware Champion title. The highest position she achieved in a tournament was 6th.

Junior Champion

eldani45 participated in 30 tournaments accumulating 70.5 points, and an average of 2.4, placed 22nd. Being the highest ranked junior player becomes the Junior Online Oware Champion. His best performance was 12th and worst was 22nd.

These figures show the dominance of one particular player mrjohnson from Nigeria winning 65.4% of the tournament more than all the other players combined. This feat was also the 2nd time running of being the dominant champion. Ghana had the most number of winning players, 4 in total. Closely followed by Benin with 3 players winning tournaments.

mrjohnson had the distinction of winning the 1st tournament of the 3rd season. ayostar (?) of an unknown country placed 2nd. After this tournament all tournaments were scheduled as a contacts only tournaments. To ensure which country a player represented was known. kongadji had the accolade of winning the last tournament of the season.

Of interest in tournaments where Benoise players featured heavily top Ghanaian players were relegated to third placed country for a like to like comparison.
