Last week’s campaign of games continued unabated. Once again, the top four positioned players did not change, with dsk, er17, serikaktayev and leprophete remaining in their positions. What did change was the occupant of the 5th position, which by default went to salgerd after the demotion of masterfisz. In the top 50 there weren’t any drastic moves, except one or two players in the ranking table. Saturday’s practice tournament injected some excitement as the first blitz (2m + 2s) tournament was inadvertently scheduled and competed over in an atmosphere of the unknown and excitement. Newcomers did not make any significant waves in the ranking table except one player, who showed some promise.
Highlight of the week: The highlight of the week ultimately was the practice tournament on Saturday. With mistake in scheduling, inadvertently designating it a blitz tournament, it was one of excitement and I am sure perplexity and apprehension. It was a real test of who could perform well under the pressure of limited time, and most players handled it well. In between games apologies were offered for the mistake being made. A crude poll was taken as to whether the time for the practice tournament is to be reduced going forward. The result was a consensus from those who responded for it to be kept at the normal 7m + 2s time.
Risers: By default, salgerd moved into the top five, with the demotion of masterfisz from it and panfile losing points after the week’s campaign of matches. A player who we had been oblivious of but has come to our attention in the last fortnight is conteconte who rose 6 places last week to claim the 17th position in the ranking table. The highest riser in the top 50 was monkftw, who rose 14 places to the 35th position in the ranking table. bapoware moved up 11 places back into the top 50 in 46th position. furtif1 rose 30 places to claim the 49th position in the top 50. kzkz888 first week on the platform was impressive raising to become a green ranked player. That rise was ultimately halted in the practice tournament.
Fallers: The largest faller of the week was smp4264g, who fell 20 positions to 41st place on the ranking table. masterfisz fell out of the top five, five places to 10th position. alkoko also fell 9 positions to 48th in the ranking table. In the lower ranks chronica fell 15 places to 82nd. vou1 fell 29 places to 102nd position. tornados and carlomonte fell 26 and 27 places to position 109th & 110th respectively. However probably the largest faller was 5460africa, falling 34 places to 123rd in the ranking table.
Mini marathon matches: On Monday 30th panfile & tps491g played an eleven-game match resulting in a 7 – 4 victory for panfile, bringing their total result to 10 – 6 for panfile. panfile & kamilrybnik played a 25-game match resulting in a 16 – draw – 8 win for panfile bringing their total of games between them at 58 – 22 and 8 draws for panfile. lordsoso & bapoware played a ten-game match resulting in a 3 – 7 loss for lordsoso.
On Tuesday 1st masterfisz gave lawhkx conclusive 12 – draw lesson in their 13-game match. Also, on Tuesday kamilrybnik engaged lordsoso in an 18-game match resulting in a 10 – 8 defeat for lordsoso, bringing their total scores to 89-28-8 for kamilrybnik. kamilrybnik then played tps491g an 18-game match resulting in a 9 – draw – 8 close defeat for tps491g, bringing their total scores to 13-8-1 for kamilrybnik. lordsoso played an eight-game match with gugus39 resulting in 6 – 2 win for lordsoso.
On Wednesday 2nd wkc1342 & masterfisz played a twelve-game match 6 – draw – 5 win for wkc1342 win for wkc1342, bringing their total scores to 62 – 96 – 11 to masterfisz. conteconte & jeandidier played a nine-game match resulting in a conclusive 8 – draw win for conteconte. conteconte then went on to lose 7 – 2 to wkc1342 in a nine-game match. kamilrybnik engaged harrison01 in a 14-game match resulting in a 9 – draw – 4 win for kamilrybnik. zingman & lawhkx played a 13-game match resulting in a 8 – draw – 4 win for zingman, lordsoso vs ntg1645g 7 – 1.
On Thursday 3rd lordsoso & monkftw played a 13-gme match resulting in a 9 - 4 draws win for lordsoso. lordsoso then convincingly defeated alaaga 12 – 0 wipe out. lordsoso the defeated zkibwoy 8 – 2 draws – 2. In a 12-game match. Finally, lordsoso engaged tps491g in a 14-game match resulting 5 – draw – 11 defeat for lordsoso.
On Friday 4th lordsoso engaged ctt9688g in a nine-game match resulting in an 8 – 1 win for lordsoso, lordsoso played gugus39 a nine-game match resulting in a 3 – 6 defeat for lordsoso.
On Saturday 5th lawhkx & lordsoso played a 14-game match resulting in 4 – draw – 9 defeat for lawhkx. lordsoso & tornados played 22-game match resulting in a 22 – 0 decimation of tornados
On Sunday 6th winin & lordsoso played a 16-game match resulting in a 10 – 2 draws – 4 win for winin. kamilrybnik & panfile played a 25-game match resulting 8 – draw – 15. lordsoso defeated 5460africa 10 – 0 in a ten-game match. lordsoso & tornados played a marathon 30 game match resulting in a convincing 27 – 2 draw – 1 defeat of tornados. furtif1 defeated 5460africa resoundingly 8 – 0.
Newcomers: kzkz88 who made his / her debut on the platform on Friday performed well in the practice tournament, placing 5th. ctt9688g also came to our notice, being able to claim some games of some of the lower ranked top 50 players, one to watch out for.
Practice Tournament: The 23rd Practice Tournament turned out to be the first blitz Oware tournament due to a mistake in scheduling, the incorrect time of (2m + 2s) was selected instead of 7m + 2s. The mistake was only discovered way into the first round, nevertheless it produced an exciting tournament. The tournament saw the debut of three new players: kzkz888, 2020peter and ogemadavid, I am sure it must have been a baptism of fire for them, although kzkz888 did well to place 5th. At the end of the seven rounds multiple past winner mandarin prevailed with a clean seven wins. After winning the first ever blitz tournament mandarin progressed up the ranking table to the 22nd position. monkftw came in 2nd position after losing matches to mandarin and 9at1. kostyan2 current European Online Oware Champion placed 3rd.
