The yellow brick wall, ranking region (1500 – 1700 ranking points) is proving to be a real test of players abilities, for try as they may newcomers and stalwarts have found it increasingly difficult to surmount this region. Only one player motambapembe has managed to graduate into the orange (1700 - 2000) ranking region in recent weeks. Newcomers kzkz888 and tchayna rampaged through the green zone (1200 – 1500) and burst in to the yellow, only for them to be stopped in their tracks by the gate keepers of the zone. Once again, the yellow and orange zone proved quite resilient. Major movements in the top 50 were the exception, barring the newcomers. The top five positions stayed the same except leprophete and serikaktayev who changed positions.
Highlights of the week: The seven-game match between dsk and wkc1342 proved to be exhilarating. With a new lease strength of attack wkc1342 launched into dsk. Try as wkc1342 did it wasn’t until the third attempt that a game was won. Two more losses came for wkc1342, then another win. The final game was a victory for dsk and wkc1342 conceded defeat and left, nevertheless it was a valiant attempt. Another highlight was the match between serikaktayev and wkc1342. It was a gripping match to watch with wkc1342 winning the first game. wkc1342 has certainly made use of his matches with, dsk, masterfisz, panfile and kamilrybnik to up his game. In each game it was toe to toe, with the second game going to serikaktayev. After the third game 18 – 8 decimation, wkc1342 resigned the game left. On Saturday
leprophete gave the newcomer tchayna 2 – 0, however in the second game leprophete massacred tchayna 26 – 0.
Risers: The top five remained the same, however masterfisz climbed up 3 places to the 7th position. The top riser newcomer who burst into the yellow zone last week after 13 days of playing rose a whopping 44 places to the 34th position. tchayna an even more recent newcomer joined players in the yellow zone at 35th position after 4 days of hard-fought wins and defeats. smp4264g rose 10 places to the 31st position.
Fallers: panfile and wkc134 moved down 3 and 4 places respectively to occupy the 9th and 11th positions. motembapembe dropped 5 positions but still managed to remain in the orange zone an 19th place. the largest fallers in the top 50 went to winin, monkftw and harrion01 falling 12 positions and 18 positions respectively. lordsoso dropped 13 places to crash out of the top 50.
Newcomers: tchayna a newcomer who just came onto the platform on Thursday, burst into the yellow ranking arena defeating all comers, despite attempts to thwart his or her progress with shenanigans of time changing of game table. After such a meteoric rise he or she came up against the yellow (brick wall) zone and encountered stiff resistance, losing games to zingman, masterfisz the inhabitants of this zone and higher. kzkz888 a newcomer from last week also continued his rise up the ranks maintaining their position in the yellow zone.
Mini Marathon Matches: On Monday wkc1342 gave lawhkx a 10 – 0 lesson in their 10-game match. kamilrybnik played wkc1342 in a twelve-game match resulting in a 11 – 1 defeat for kamilrybnik.
On Tuesday lordsoso engaged tornados in a 19-game match resulting in an 18 -1 defeat of tornados. lordsoso & furtif1 then played an eight-game match resulting in a 4 – 4 draw.
On Wednesday lawhkx & smp4264g played a 9-game match resulting in a 2 – draw – 6 loss for lawhkx. Soon after tornados & 5460africa played a 14-game match resulting in 6 – 8 loss for tornados. kostyan2 & sanaker played a nine-game match resulting in a 6 – 2 draw – 1 win for kostyan2.
On Thursday harrison01 & kzkz888 played a ten-game match resulting in a 5 – 5 draw. lordsoso & ddi played an eight-game match resulting in a 7 – 1 defeat for ddi. lordsoso & tornados then played a 14-game match 13 – 1 defeat for tornados. newcomer tchayna defeated winin 5 – 3.
On Friday zingman & kzkz888 played a seven-game match resulting in a 4 – 3 win for zingman. tchayna & played kostyan2 a 13-game match resulting in 10 – draw – 2 defeat for kostyan2.
On Saturday winin & gugus39 played an 8-game match resulting in a 7 – 1 defeat for gugus39. motembapembe & harrison01 played a 15-game match resulting in a 4 – 11 game loss for harrison01. zingman & jeandidier played nine-game match resulting in a 5 – 4 win for zingman. zingman the played a ten-game match with kostyan2 resulting in a 7 – draw – 2 win for zingman.
On Sunday harrison01 & ddi played an eleven-game match resulting in a 6 – draw – 4 win for harrison01. lordsoso & goldm played a 16-game match resulting in a 11 – 2 draw – 1 win for lordsoso. winin & lordsoso played an 11 - game match resulting in a 7 – 3 draws – 1 win for winin.
Practice Tournament: This week’s tournament was a bit of a strange one with some new players taking part in the tournament for the first time. In total 15 players participated in the tournament; therefore, one player was on a bye. serikaktayev put in an appearance as an observer, try as we did, he did not participate. However, we were graced with the participation of leprophete a red ranked player. There was no doubt who would be the winner and as rankings indicate, leprophete won the tournament with a straight seven wins.
