Last week’s campaign of games and matches was exciting as ever but a little subdued compared to previous weeks. It seems players have got into a more sustainable rhythm of playing and picking their games carefully. The number of players competing consistently stayed the same. Marathon matches were in short supply, the longest being the late Sunday evening 24-game match between zingman and new-comer to the top 50 tps491g and just a month on the platform. Late Sunday evening also saw a one-sided match between leprophete and motembapembe.
Highlight of the week: As already alluded to in the introduction, last week’s highlights came in the late hours of Sunday in matches between leprophete multiple practice tournament winner and ranked fourth on the platform and the newcomer from several weeks into the top 50 motembapembe. They played a twelve-game match which resulted in a conclusive 10 – draw – 1 victory for leprophete. motembapembe also featured in an acrimonious match with wkc1342 where psychological tactics through heckling was deployed by wkc1342, in an attempt, to put motembapembe of his / her game. in the end they drew 3 – draw – 3.
Mini Marathon matches of the week: tps491g engaged zingman in a 24-game match starting in the late hours of Sunday evening and finishing in the early hours of Monday morning, resulting in a 15 – 2 draw – 7 win for tps491g. radka183 & ddi played an eleven-game match resulting in an 8 – 3 win for ddi. furtif1 & radka183 played a 9-game match with victory going to radka183 6 – 3, furtif1 & tornados played a 12-game match resulting in a 5 – draw 6 win for tornados. On Tuesday smp4264g engaged wkc1342 in a thirteen-game match, resulting in a 8 – 5 win for wkc1342. On Wednesday smp4264g played a 15-game match with zingman, resulting in a 6 – draw – 9 defeat for smp4264g. On Saturday masterfisz & panfile played a fifteen-game match resulting in a 8 – draw – 5 for masterfisz.
Risers: The top four positions stayed the same with each player having above 2000 ranking points. panfile rose one position to fourteenth. kamilrybnik and motembapembe both rose 3 and 5 places, respectively. The largest riser is tps491g rising nineteen places to nineteenth. smp4264g, winin and tinctoria rose 4, 8, 3, places respectively to occupy the 23rd to 25th positions. legagnat rose eleven places to 40th position. ddi and furtif1 both rose nine positions and claimed the 48th and 50th spots in the top 50.
Fallers: Once again masterfisz dropped one place out of the top five to sixth position. wkc1342 dropped nine places to fifteenth. Lawhkx and zingman dropped four and 10 places, respectively. lordsoso, monkftw dropped one and four positions respectively, but managed to remain in the top 50
Practice Tournament: The weekly practice tournaments are becoming increasingly intense and competitive as the range of participating players level of play becomes increasingly narrows. This week’s tournament featured players from the yellow and green band rankings, with a few blue ranked players. The beauty about this tournament is that players of all abilities get to play each other, something that does not happen as often as it should in the ashanti room, giving rise to the potential for upsets and demonstrated in this weeks tournament. phlorix50 a blue ranked player did particularly well, taking games of monkftw and chronica to place fourth. At the end of the seven rounds legagnat reigned supreme winning all his matches to gain seven points, rubber up was monkftw with five points, and in third position was ddi also with five points.
